Data Collection
Vinyl Wallpaper does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. There are no analytics frameworks, no third-party trackers, and no telemetry.
How Vinyl Wallpaper Works
All processing happens entirely on your Mac:
- Spotify integration — Vinyl Wallpaper reads your current track from the Spotify desktop app using AppleScript. This information never leaves your computer.
- WiiM integration — Vinyl Wallpaper discovers WiiM devices on your local network and queries their playback status. All communication stays within your home network.
- AirPlay & Apple Music — Vinyl Wallpaper reads playback state from the Music app using AppleScript. No data is shared externally.
- Artwork fetching — Album artwork is fetched directly from public APIs (Spotify oEmbed, iTunes Search) to display on your desktop. Vinyl Wallpaper does not track which artwork is fetched.
Permissions
Vinyl Wallpaper requests the following macOS permissions for core functionality:
- Automation — To read the current track from Spotify and Music.app.
- Audio Input — To capture audio levels for the VU meter animation on the turntable wallpaper.
- Local Network — To discover WiiM devices and AirPlay speakers on your network.
None of these permissions are used to collect or transmit data outside your device.
Third-Party Services
Vinyl Wallpaper makes requests to the following public APIs solely to fetch album artwork:
- Spotify oEmbed API (
open.spotify.com/oembed)
- iTunes Search API (
itunes.apple.com/search)
These requests do not include any personal information or authentication credentials.
