GuitarTools ("we", "us") is designed to respect your privacy. This policy explains what the app does and doesn't do with your data. The short version: almost everything happens on your device, and nothing you play is ever recorded or stored.
On-device audio processing
The Tuner, Metronome, and Acoustic Health features process audio in real time, entirely on your device. Audio from your microphone is analyzed momentarily to measure pitch and acoustic characteristics and is then discarded.
- No audio is ever recorded.
- No audio is ever stored on your device or anywhere else.
- No audio is ever transmitted to us or to any third party.
Your Acoustic Health history (scores and measurements for your instrument) is stored locally on your device only, and you can delete it at any time from the app.
AI Technique Coach
- GuitarTools does not save your photo or the feedback.
- Photos are transmitted only when you explicitly choose to analyze them.
- The image is never retained — it is erased immediately after the analysis is complete.
- Results are educational and are not medical advice or a substitute for an instructor.
Sheet Music Library
Your imported scores are stored in your private iCloud (and locally on your device). Your sheet music is never transmitted to us or to any third party, and it is never used for analytics or advertising.
What we never do
- We do not require an account or ask for any personal information.
- We do not run advertising SDKs or analytics trackers.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with other entities.
- We do not track your activity across apps or websites.
Other data processing
The app communicates with its backend only for lightweight infrastructure:
- Configuration — retrieves app settings such as the current AI model version. No personal data is sent.
- Security — protects backend services from abuse. No personal data is sent.
Permissions
- Microphone — used only for real-time pitch detection and acoustic measurement; never recorded or stored.
- Camera — used only when you choose to take or select a photo for AI Coach analysis.
You can revoke these permissions at any time in iOS Settings without affecting the rest of the app.
Siri & Shortcuts
The "Play E String" shortcut plays a reference tone locally. No data is exchanged with Siri beyond what Apple handles as part of Shortcuts, which is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
Children
GuitarTools does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date above and note the change in the app's release notes.
