Frequently Asked Questions

How does SnoreDetector detect snoring?

SnoreDetector uses on-device Digital Signal Processing (DSP) to analyze audio patterns. It looks for periodic energy bursts in the frequency range typical of snoring (80–450 Hz), combined with spectral feature analysis to distinguish snores from speech, music, and ambient noise. Everything runs locally on your iPhone.

Does SnoreDetector work while my phone is locked?

Yes. SnoreDetector uses iOS background audio capabilities to continue monitoring while your phone is locked and the screen is off. We recommend keeping your iPhone plugged in overnight for best results.

Where should I place my iPhone?

Place your iPhone on a nightstand or stable surface near your bed, ideally within 1–2 meters of your head. The app includes a placement guide to help you find the optimal position. Avoid placing it on soft surfaces like pillows that might muffle the microphone.

Will the sound cues wake me up?

The cues are designed to be subtle — gentle wind chimes, rain sounds, or soft tones — that encourage a natural position change without fully waking you. You can choose from multiple sounds and adjust the volume to find what works best for you.

Does SnoreDetector work with Apple Watch?

Yes. If you have a paired Apple Watch with the companion SnoreWatch app installed, SnoreDetector can send gentle wrist taps when snoring is detected. This provides an alternative nudge that won’t disturb a partner.

Is my audio data secure?

Absolutely. All audio is processed exclusively on your device. No recordings, audio streams, or analysis results are ever transmitted to external servers or third parties. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Does the app drain my battery?

SnoreDetector is optimized for overnight use. It samples audio periodically (configurable in settings) rather than continuously, and uses efficient DSP algorithms. We recommend charging your iPhone overnight as you normally would.

Can I listen back to my snoring recordings?

Yes. Detected snore events are recorded as short clips that you can browse and play back in the Recordings tab. An optional noise-reduction enhancement makes the audio clearer for playback.
